The fight began with a cautious opener as Whyte jabbed well and Povetkin targeted the body.

Whyte responded with big body shots of his own in the second which caused the Russian to take a couple of steps back.

Povetkin stumbled after being caught off balance by a straight right at the start of round three, but recovered well.

Then, in round four, Whyte made the breakthrough.

Whyte floored Povetkin twice

Povetkin found himself on the canvas as Whyte drilled home a crunching short left hook.

The 40-year-old rose to his feet, but was nailed again with a stunning uppercut at the end of the round and fell for a second time.

The writing looked to be on the wall, only for Povetkin to blast Whyte out with one single uppercut in the fifth.

Whyte was KOd

Povetkin said post fight: “I went down twice but it was okay, it wasn’t too much damage.

Whyte’s promoter Hearn said post-fight: “I can’t quite believe it to be honest. When the punch landed I felt like I was in some dream.

“The fight was over, but this is the drama of heavyweight boxing. One punch can change everything.”

He also confirmed they do plan to activate their rematch clause and make the fight again at the end of this year.
