Aston Villa face competition from Brighton for the signature of Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Rumours have been circulating in recent weeks of Martinez’s exit from the Gunners this summer in search of regular first-team football.
The Argentinian shined in the absence of Bernd Leno, who suffered a knee injury shortly after the Premier League restart in June.
Martinez has been at the club for a decade and helped them win the FA Cup last season.
The 27-year-old is likely to be relegated back to the bench with Leno now back fit for Arsenal and that has led to interest from elsewhere.
Leeds had been linked while Aston Villa were said to be the favourites to land the goalkeeper.
Ray Parlour thinks it will be difficult for Arsenal to finish in top four
They bid £15million this week, short of Arsenal’s £20million valuation, but face a challenge from the Seagulls.
The Guardian report that Graham Potter’s side have entered the race for his signature.
It is understood that he will be absent from the north London club’s squad for their opening Premier League fixture against Fulham on Saturday, with commentary of that match live on talkSPORT.
The report also says that Martinez and Arsenal are still involved in contract talks but both Brighton and Aston Villa are ready to ‘dwarf’ the salary on the table from the Gunners.
