MLS has a new star.
Toronto FC’s big signing, Alejandro Pozuelo, had one of the best debuts in league history, scoring two goals and adding an assist in TFC’s 4-0 thrashing of NYCFC. More than just the goal contributions, Pozuelo did it with style.
He announced himself with his first goal: a delicate panenka penalty — one that he promised over dinner to club president Bill Manning. Then his second was even better. In the run of play, just inside the 18, Pozuelo chipped the ‘keeper into the top corner. Audacious, lethal and breathtaking.
It was one of those goals that makes you stop. You can’t help but react. You scream. Your eyes widen. Your hands go to your head (kind of like Jozy Altidore’s did). It was a definite ”Did you just see that?!?!!?!” moment.
If this was any sign of things to come, Toronto’s new No. 10 may well turn out just as great as their old one.
