The transfer of LGP, as he is called by teammates, to Club Tijuana in Liga MX was confimed earlier this month and the Argentine could be in their kit when the 2020 Clausura kicks off as early as this month. Reports also show that Gonzalez Pirez spoke with former Atlanta United coach Tata Martino, now the Mexican national team manager, about competing in Liga MX.
The 27-year-old Gonzalez Pirez has made 95 regular season starts in three seasons with Atlanta United since his transfer from Estudiantes in Jan. 2017. The left-footed center back has twice finished in the top five for MLS Defender of the Year. He was previously linked with a move to Boca Juniors in his homeland, but that deal a year ago never materialized.
