The first Texas Derby came and went in Week 10, with the Lone Star State looking decidedly more orange from an MLS point of view.
Houston defeated FC Dallas 2-1, behind a brace from Mauro Manotas, and with the result Houston are now top of the league in points per game, their 2.38 superior to both LAFC (2.18) and the LA Galaxy (2.2).
“The Dynamo have been making simple sexy again,” writes Bobby Warshaw, who explained why Houston have started the season so well. Matt Doyle agrees, adding that depth and Memo Rodriguez’s breakout have been vital to the Dynamo’s near-perfect start, as part of his comprehensive Week 10 recap.
The skeptics will definitely point to the fact that Houston’s win over Dallas came at BBVA Compass Stadium, where they’ve played six of their opening eight matches. But now it’s time for the Dynamo to show what they can do on the road, starting against the Seattle Sounders in the Pacific Northwest next weekend.
