Luis Quinones served up a trio of assists to lead Tigres to a 4-0 victory over New York City FC in the second leg of their 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday night at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
With the result, Tigres advance to the semifinals with a 5-0 triumph on aggregate and will face CD Olimpia of Honduras on Saturday.
It was an even start between the two sides, with NYCFC looking to strike to pull level in the series.
But Andre-Pierre Gignac had other ideas and in the 30’ the dangerous French striker found the back of the net with a thumping header off a Quinones cross from the right wing for a 1-0 Tigres advantage.
Quinones was in the middle of things for Tigres at the start of the second half and his cross was exquisitely back-heeled in by Leonardo Fernandez to make it 2-0 to Tigres in the 49’.
NYCFC never threw in the towel though and they had several good looks at goal, but were unable to find a way past Tigres GK Nahuel Guzman.
The Tigres attack was rolling and Quinones got to play the role of provider for a third time on the night when his cross was headed in by Rafael de Souza in the 64’ to extend the Tigres lead to 3-0.
The night was then capped in the 85’ by Javier Aquino taking a pass from Gignac and finishing with a right-footed shot to complete the 4-0 scoreline.
