Darixon Vuelto scored a pair of goals to help Honduras march past Haiti 3-0 to open Group B of the 2020 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying championship.
Vuelto vaulted the Hondurans into the lead early on with a penalty conversion in the 14’ for a 1-0 advantage.
The goal provided a big lift and pushed the 2015 CMOQ finalists on to try to snag another score. Four minutes later in the 18’ the second goal would come with a ball over the top to Edwin Rodriguez, who finished with aplomb to make it 2-0.
Vuelto would inflict more damage before halftime in the 38’ with a strong finish after a slightly deflected cross from the right flank to hand Honduras a 3-0 lead at the break.
Honduras looked to stretch their lead in the second stanza, only to be turned away by Haiti GK Alan Jerome, who made a number of saves, including a great block of a late Juan Carlos Obregon attempt.
The two sides return to action on Monday with Honduras taking aim at El Salvador and Haiti battling with Canada.
